Well, there was some downtime today. I finally upgraded the site to the latest version of WordPressMU, version 2.6, and there were some glitches in the upgrade (including not being able to access my blog from pharmcountry.net, which isn’t really important at the moment, since I haven’t updated it in more than 6 months.) But, everything should be up and running now.

The upgrade adds a lot of new features, including the ability to view “revisions” of your posts (think the way that wikipedia is updated) and I’ll be working on adding more features and sprucing up and adding more themes.

WordPress MU 1.3 has finally been released, so I’ll be starting the upgrade process at about 5pm US eastern time, which may lead to some issues, especially during the upgrade, which may take a couple of hours.

This update brings a few new features, the most important of which is Tagging support (which won’t be really useful unless I get all 87 themes edited to include tags.)

There will also be a couple of surprises (good ones, don’t worry), which I’ll tell you about after the upgrade.

I’ve integrated PharmCountry into BlogPharm, partly to save time when upgrades are available, and partly to help build the community a little. A couple of new things you might notice are:

The main Dashboard (the page you see when you first login to the admin section) has been changed (again) to look more like the traditional WordPress dashboard, which, incidentally, brings back the “incoming links” section that was borked with the last dashboard plugin I was using.

If you know someone that you’d like to invite to BlogPharm, you can click “Invites” under the “Users” menu on the admin bar (see above if you’re in the admin section now) and enter their name and email address.

Finally, WPMU 1.3 comes out Monday, and I’ll be planning on upgrading the following weekend. 1.3 will bring some great features, including tagging and improved draft and post management, along with a few new features I plan on adding via plugins, but you’ll have to wait to see what they are. (Hey, I have to have a few surprises.)

Well, it’s been two months of (mostly non-) work, but BlogPharm, the blogging community for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and others in the many fields of pharmacy, is finally ready for its debut.

If you fall into one of the above categories (or even if you don’t) and you want a totally free - as in beer and as in freedom - blog, click “Get a Blog” at the top of this page.

Two caveats:

The forums don’t quite work yet. If you have any problems post a comment on this post, or email me at andrew at chronolink dot net.

Yes, I know the sign-up button sucks, but I didn’t feel like working on it anymore.
